I have been sewing and working in the textile industry for all of my adult life. I trained with my father who was a custom fashion designer. I started my business in 1990 when a friend asked me to design a leotard that would stay down in the back and up in the front neck. The rest, as they say, is history.
Things have changed greatly from the early days with the introduction of wonderful fabrics that are showy and easy to care for. To begin with, all we had available were the polyester or cotton lycra spandex swimwear fabrics. They were plain and didn’t offer much variety. I saved my original sample rings to remind me of how far I have come over the years.
I have built my business through word-of-mouth and I do not solicit business, which helps to keep the costs down. I have references from gyms in the Southeast as well as the University of Alabama gym camp. I also do performance leotards and dresses for dancers, skaters, and baton twirlers. I do not do a lot of costuming but will supply a basic garment that can be embellished.
Being a small company, I am able to give personal attention and strive to meet any special needs. I carry over 300 different fabrics, some in limited quantities. I stock all the basic colors of panne (crushed) and flat stretch velvets as well as holograms on both polyester lycra and velvet. I use only swimwear fabrics and elastics so they are also safe for the swimming pool. All fabrics are spandex (lycra) blend for stretch ability and comfort.
My leotards are designed to have extra growing room without falling off the shoulders and a bottom that won’t give you the feared wedgie! Give them a try and let me know what you think.
